Successfully Discipline Your Child through Consistency

Our kids generally don’t have a preview of what’s right and wrong unless you show it to them. They tend to copy what you are going thinking that they are right. When setting a good example especially with discipline, you need to be consistent.

If you teach your child what’s right from wrong and be a good model to them, this will prevent them from developing any bad habits later on. Becoming a good model means you make sure that your words and deeds coincide with each other. For kids, your deeds are more worthy following than your words. Therefore, you need to say the words as well as show it in your action.

How can you be better at discipline?

Be firm and consistent with your teaching. If you say that “no more candies before bedtime,” it should be followed otherwise your child will suffer the consequences after it.

Consistency will help your child realize what the things that are unacceptable and inappropriate are. This will give them an opportunity to grow more responsible.

If you are striving for consistency, your partner must be striving as well. If you say no and your partner says yes, that would result to confusion and your child may end up favoring your partner because he always get the go signal. Kids usually appreciate the positive tone and they will later develop the habit, which is generally not acceptable.

You and your partner must establish a common ground for the disciplinary aspect of your family.

Remember, it is easy to start a family. Becoming a parent to your child is generally hard. It takes a lot of effort and patience even if sometimes you find it exhausting.
