Effective Tips to Save Money

If you want to fight bankruptcy, saving money is the only way that you can do it. It does not make you immune against it but it is your best defense from the financial loss, saving money will also allow you to expand on your finances and invest it into businesses that will give you income revenue.

We know for a fact that basic employment could not generate the adequate amount of money that we need. You can think of other things to do to circulate your money and make the most of it.

However, the most basic thing about all of these is the saving skills. You have to spend responsibly and if possible live within what you can afford. Never attempt to spend more than what you earn because this is the easiest way towards financial troubles.

Saving will enable you to have money that is enough for future use especially some unforeseen circumstances.

1 – Develop a habit that will teach you the difference between wants and needs

Ideally, you only purchase the item that you basically need. When we talk about needs, we are talking about the things that you cannot live without such as food, water, shelter, clothing and education along with other less priority needs that you can ignore unless all your “needs” are met.

Cars and mobile phones on the other hand is just part of your want though sometimes you can consider them as needs. However, unless you earn enough to spend for your basic needs and has extra amount to buy these things, do not include them in your priority list.

Should there be a need for these minor things, you need to make sure that you make it to the point that they are of practical use.

2 – Avoid living in luxury

Luxury is just for people who can afford them unless you are wise consumer who is constantly in search of best deals out there. Always make sure that you know the definition of enough so that you will not overspend.

3 – Save more

In any case that you have extra money in your current paycheck, be sure to save them and keep them for future use. Nobody knows what will happen around the corner. Therefore, you have to prepare for what is to come.

Make sure that your paycheck is already evenly distributed to meet all your needs. Have a log book of expenses and see where your money is going. You may have to redefine your goals if you think you are not following the right track.

What are the Methods of Saving Money?

When we speak about saving, we usually speak about the means to put aside some of the money that we earn for future use.

There are many reasons why you need to save including:

• Education
• Acquiring a new car
• Housing down payment
• Retirement plans
• Other least-priority projects

There are also several methods of saving moderately large amount of money for your future needs. Your goal will define what method to use in order to save.

1 – Opening a savings account

If you are only saving for emergency expenses that you do not know when to occur, the best method to use is to open a savings account. This method of saving is easily accessible and available.

However, it can also be used for long-term saving where you can readily deposit and withdraw money from your account. You must remember that there is a minimum amount to be maintained.

2 – Interest loaded checking account

In this method, you do not only get the benefit of saving you will also get the benefits of the interest. In general, you can also access different types of privileges like ATM access, unlimited withdrawal and writing checks as well as payments of bills that can be done online.

3 – Insured accounts in money market

If your goal is for long-term, this is the best method that you can use. These offer higher interest rates when compared to the regular accounts. However, the interest rate depends on how much you deposit. If you deposit large amounts, you can definitely get higher interest rates.

4 – Deposit certificates

This method of savings deposit requires you to loan your money to a financial agency for a certain period of time. Typically, the duration ranges from 30 days to 5 years. If you have a longer time deposit, you will have higher interest.

Insurance companies have better deals than banks so you might want to check out insurance companies for their deals.

The uncertainty of our future should be enough to encourage into saving money and focus on methods that will not likely give us easy access. Saving money can give us a lot of benefits more than we can imagine.

Teaching Your Kids to Save Money

Most of the younger generation of today does not know how to responsibly earn and spend their money. Their orientation is set to being carefree and full of fun and enjoyment because they have the support of their family. They have to start understanding the importance of proper investment and saving. Your role as a parent is to make them see the clear path of being responsible in terms of spending and money.

How to make them see the importance of money?

1 – Educate them about how important money is in early childhood.

It is easier to teach them again and again during childhood when they have not developed spending habits yet. Be consistent in all your teaching and do not deviate from your beliefs.

2 – Explain to your kids the real value of money.

Of course, there are more important things that you should teach them. But, the importance of money is something you should not ignore. Remember, there are unfortunate ones outside your home who do not have to be taught about the importance of money because they do not have the money to spend in the first place.

3 – Given them enough allowances.

If they want something that is way beyond their allowances, they should work hard to get it. Do not give in to their money wishes. Kids can be quite charming when they want something but you need to be firm with what you teach and consistently remind them of their responsibilities. Teach them how to save using their allowances only.

4 – Let them work

Perhaps, it is only about washing dishes or laundry. You can compensate their hard work so that they will know how to earn what they deserve. Encourage them to learn how to earn their money the hard way but do not forget about their needs as well. If you talk about their wants, it’s another different story.

5 – Give them piggybanks

Give them piggybanks instead of money right away. It will make them realize how important saving money is if they want something. If they want to have new iPods then wouldn’t it be better if they earn their way to get it? Let them know the joy of spending the money that they saved.

However, you need to know that teaching them the importance of money is something that can never learned overnight. You have to show them and teach them over and over again. Be patient during times that they could not understand what you teach. They will but let them learn it on their own pace.

Learning How You and Your Partner can Save Money

Newly wedded couples find it hard to adjust to their new setting especially when they are so used to their single lives. Included in this adjustment is the way you manage your finances. This is because your spending habits must alter so that you can sustain your newly built family.

I will share some tips on how you and your family can save money even when you are still starting.

1 – Understand the way you both handle money

It is expected that you will have different ways of handling money. The best way to resolve these differences is to discuss and compromise with each other. You and your partner cannot sustain a relationship if you still preserve your old habits of spending. Remember, you are not single anymore. You have to start thinking about your future and your kid’s future as well as your daily expenses.

2 – Define your financial goals

You are starting your family therefore you must have been thinking about having kids. Your “family” will grow bigger. Now, what about you start thinking about their future needs such as education in addition to your basic needs? It would be easier to handle your future financial needs if you have defined your goals right from the start.

3 – Discuss any money-saving knowledge you have

It is of utmost importance that you share whatever technique you have in saving money with your partner. This way you will both know whether or not you are ready to take another step further with your family. You have to think about your finances really seriously so that even with the ongoing economic crisis, you and your family will still be able to make it.
