How to Control Bipolar Disorder

There is really no cure for bipolar disorder. However, just like any other chronic disorder, it can be controlled. There are a lot of people affected with bipolar disorder that have led wonderful, satisfying and productive lives. It has been made possible through effective methods of control.

How will you control bipolar disorder?

1 – Consult a mental professional (preferably psychiatrist) that you can trust

There is every need for you to establish a trusted relationship with your physician so that you can exchange information with each other more openly.

2 – Make sure to take your medication

This is one of the most important factors that will help you control your condition. You need to follow through with your medication if you want to be efficient and effective since this is a lifetime regimen that you need to adhere to. Do not ever attempt to stop taking the medication just because you are feeling better.

3 – Manage your stress

Extreme stress can trigger attacks of either the manic episodes or depressive episodes of bipolar disorder. Always find time to take a break and relax by talking to someone you can trust or do the things you love. It will definitely decrease the risk of attack.

4 – Don’t isolate yourself

Having a bipolar disorder does not mean you have to face it alone. There will always be support and help especially from people who truly cares for you. It is important that you share your thoughts, feelings and views so that people will understand you the way you want them to.

5 – Stay healthy and fit

Do not forget that healthy diet and exercise would really make a difference. Your mind’s health is also your body’s health and vice versa. Do not neglect the needs of your body as a whole.

6 – Education

The more you know about your condition, the more you will be able to know what you can do to control it. Read books and research so that your knowledge can assist you. Involve your family and friends in your quest to live a normal, happy and satisfying life.

7 – Enjoy life

Do not forget to recreate. Do things that you find enjoyable. Make happiness your utmost priority and you can only do this if you can engage in certain activities such as hobbies that can let you enjoy life.

When you are diagnosed with bipolar disorder, it is not the end of the world yet. You have to pick up the pieces and face it head on. Nobody will win your battle for you but you alone.
